Fourth Year of Excellence: Newman Smith Shines at State VASE
Piece of wood covered in honey and bees

The Newman Smith Visual Art Department is pleased to announce some exciting news! For the fourth consecutive year, a student from our school has qualified for the State VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event) competition, and for the fourth year in a row, we have brought home a medal!

This year, Sequoia Moss (11th) earned a Silver Medal at the state level, marking her second year both qualifying for state and receiving a medal! The VASE competition is highly competitive, with over 32,000 students participating at the regional level. Of those, only approximately 2,000 students advance to the state event, making

this achievement especially significant.

Please join us in congratulating Sequoia on this outstanding success! I have attached an image of her winning sculpture. If you would like to see Sequoia's artist statement or hear about her artistic process, feel free to reach out to Ms. Smith in the art department.
